Happy New Year!
One of the ways I celebrate the new year, with varying degrees of success, is to make predictions. In 2014 I was more rightish than wrongish, but last year, 2015, I was pretty much mostly wrong. 
So here goes my predictions for 2016.
- Donald Trump will not win the Republican nomination for President.
- The San Francisco Giants will win the World Series, because this is their on year.
- North Korea will attack South Korea, thus ending the decades long cease-fire. This will happen before President Obama leaves office.
- Saudi Arabia will form an uneasy alliance with Israel and the two nations will attack Iran.
- Bashar al-Assad will still be the leader of Syria on December 31, 2016.
- One major Protestant denomination in the United States will dissolve.
- The new Star Trek movie, Star Trek Beyond, will be terrible, absolutely terrible.
- A biological agent (like algae or bacteria) that dissolves plastic will be devised for large scale commercial use, thus solving a major environmental problem.
- Auto-makers will produce a wide range of electric cars, and they will be commercial flops.
- Wal-Mart will continue its decline, and by the end of the year will announce major closures and layoffs.
Okay, those are some of mine. What do you predict for 2016?

i predict that God is in control no matter what we do…..He is full of surprises!!
yes, he is, and he is never surprised. i however, never cease to be surprised at the weirdness in the world.
You got that one right in 2015 anyway.
yeah, but the one i got right was tragic and sad.
I’ll go out on a limb (truly, I am no good at this). Largely due to the controversy over the Tamir Rice case, in 2016 Michael O’Malley will defeat Tim McGinty for the Democratic Party nomination for Cuyahoga County Prosecuting Attorney, and Mr. O’Malley will later be elected the next Prosecuting Attorney. The politics of electing that office are kind of odd. Given the Democratic Party’s greater official support for Mr. O’Malley, this seems an easy prediction, but party politics in Greater Cleveland defy such ease.
A safer prediction: Cleveland will never elect a Republican to that office.
virgil–i know exactly what you’re talking about with the one party system. in washington only dems won, and here in texas only GOP wins. one party rule is, in general, not very healthy.
