The Greenbeans enjoy movies. I like old movies and have recently inflicted North By Northwest and Red River upon my otherwise unsuspecting family. The public library is a great resource for these types of films; although sometimes you have to wait so long that you forget you ordered it. But, it is always worth it.
Because I have inflicted so many old movies upon them of late they got to pick and decided that we would go see the movie which apparently everyone else has seen, Megamind. The only real problem for me is that Megamind is in 3-D, which is an abbreviation for “Three Times the Dollars”. Wow, it is so expensive.
I enjoyed it very much, though, and thought it was witty. The Marlon Brando gig was a very nice touch!
What shouted at me, though (you guessed it), were the theological themes. (NOTE—SPOILER ALERT’S BELOW)
- Metro Man—He is intended to be a Christ-figure, but vainly so. He walks on water, has a death and resurrection type sequence, and his cape is handled and even looks like the Shroud of Turin. His failure in the film is almost a lament that the Christian community has backed away from the real problems of society.
- Evil—At first it appears the film is portraying a typical Hollywood dualism with a hero and a villain. However, what we see is that the villain, although evil, is never able to completely destroy or even win a single battle against the hero. Good always wins. This is similar to the claim that Christians make regarding the One True God. Evil, though strong, is not an equal opposing force to the Lord. God and only God is almighty. The Devil is not equal to God in power and strength and therefore, evil cannot win.
- Megamind’s Parallel—Is Megamind Judas or is Megamind Satan? Is he the misguided traitor who doesn’t understand the ramifications of his actions or is he the original author of atrocity? How about this for an answer: I perceive Megamind wants to be Satan but actually doesn’t actually have it in him. He is more of a Judas figure, and the film portrays him sympathetically as such, almost a proto-Gnostic Judas.
- Megamind’s Redemption—The transformation of Megamind from ultimate villain to the one who saves the day is truly a story of conversion. Change is possible, and people can be enlightened. In the film this change is brought about by romantic love. We understand that true conversion is triggered by the love of God which engages us and leads us to want to change (Romans 12:1-2) our minds from evil to bad. This is what the power of the gospel is all about.
Aside from all that, there are some enjoyable aspects to the film—the rock-n-roll music from my high school days was a blast from the past and the mock President Obama “NO YOU CAN’T” posters made me laugh-out-loud. It is a fun film, and if you have the $300 dollars it take to go see it in 3-D, I highly recommend it.

So far, from the few blogs I’ve read on this, everyone has completely missed the point. It is a mind-control movie for one, top Hollywood movies are usually channeled from Demons, it is AIMED at kids for when they grow up and finally, it is about the end days when Satan has full power over the earth – once the Restrainer has been taken away.
Satan won’t be coming to ‘destroy’ everyone – he will come with a false sense of peace, prosperity and security. Sure all the last believers of Jesus that were lukewarm and not raptured will have their heads guillotined, but that will be advertised to the mass public as a justifiable judgment to keep everyone safe. Possibly even blood sports will be re-introduced (as evidenced from movies from The Running Man to the recent Gamer).
All the talk about 2012 and ‘aliens’ are also mind-control predictive programming – we don’t, and will not, know the time of the Rapture (if that is for a fact happening), but it does seem very evident that the powers of darkness are moving into position along the battlefront to take the reigns as soon as it, or another great event, happens. It would not surprise me if the Rapture will be blamed on ‘alien’ abductions – although any-and-all aliens are purely demons or fallen angels.
As it was in the days of Noe, it honestly seems like it is very similar right now – there are more and more predictive programming movies aimed at making fallen angels in ‘human’ form more acceptable for mating with women, such as Avatar – blue blood demons are becoming ‘sexy’.
Rather than babble on, I’ll end with this – movies are NOT for enjoyment – the imaginations of man are filled with more demoniacally implanted thoughts than we could actually imagine. The majority of writers are ‘channeling’ their stories, either consciously or unconsciously aware. The directors are designing scenes via demonic instruction, consciously or unconsciously as well (as evident from the major influx of Illuminati and Masonic elements in almost every recent movie). And Holly-wood are funding this beast to spread the satanic-word in preparation for their god, Lucifer, to arrive.
Just review Hells Bells 2 or Killuminati or videos of actors and musicians selling their souls to the devil – all found on youtube by various uploaders.
The end is coming soon – and so is the Great Delusion that God has authorized for Satan to use.
thanks nathan for reading the post and commenting on it. there are some things in your reply that I do not agree with, but there are some salient things which i think you are right about. the devil is real and i do believe he is, as he has always been, in the work of deceiving people. some art and some films are certain used by the evil one to these ends. however, i do not believe that all stories and films, nor even the vast majority are that sinister. human beings were made by the Lord with imaginations and with a creative spirit. we tell stories–its what we do.
now, as it pertains to those stories–here is where i agree with your underlying assertions of apostasy. the further we as a culture get from following the Lord, the worse our art gets. as i blogged just a week or so ago, i am watching the films which have been nominated for best picture. over half of them are garbage. they are garbage because they reflect a culture which is filled with vile language, sexual depravity, and spiritual emptiness. for example, last week we saw the descendants. as i watched the film all i kept thinking was, “these people need Jesus.” what i think my response as Christ-follower is in our world is to engage the culture and allow that to inform me of those around me. again, taking the clooney character from “the descendants” he reminds me of so many people i see every day. his marriage is a disaster, his children are out of control, and he has no moral center.
our art is so dark and fatalistic because that is where our culture has landed.
however, God is at work and i have hope that; if the Lord does indeed tarry, a generation will come behind us that will reject the nihilism of my generation and replace it with true hope–hope in Christ.
